Snow has always held a magical allure for me. Living in the warm plains, I craved the experience of snowfall and there was no better way to satisfy this longing than embarking on a solo trip to Manali, a paradise nestled amidst the snow-capped mountains. This is the story of my unforgettable journey that started with an impromptu plan and had all kinds of adventure from missed trains to new friendships and the breathtaking beauty of the snowy landscapes.
A Bumpy Start
It all started with a reel I saw on Instagram and I just had this inner urge to go see snow, I booked the next available train, then I hurriedly packed my bags and set off on a train from Jaipur to Delhi. However, fate had other plans for me. Due to a series of unfortunate events (basically traffic), I missed my train to Delhi. Disheartened but determined, I decided to take a bus the next morning to reach Delhi.

Onward to Manali
After a somewhat exhausting journey, I finally arrived in Delhi in the afternoon. Without wasting any more time, I quickly booked a night bus to Manali. The prospect of waking up amidst the snow-capped mountains kept me going through the long bus ride, and as the first rays of the morning sun touched the horizon, I knew I had reached my destination. But unfortunately I didn’t.
The bus was running late due to bad weather and bad roads. The bus that was supposed to arrive at 9am to Manali, reached at 12pm. But the good thing was, I finally reached and that was enough to keep my spirits up.
The Warmth of New Friendships
Upon reaching Manali, I checked into a cozy hostel. Little did I know that this place would not only offer comfort but also introduce me to some amazing fellow travelers. In the common area, I struck up conversations with fellow adventurers from around the country, all of whom were seeking the same magical experience as I was.
A Stroll Down Mall Road
As the evening descended, we decided to explore the charm of Manali’s Mall Road together. The bustling streets, the aroma of local delicacies, and the distant view of snow-capped peaks added to the enchantment of the place. We went to a local restaurant for dinner and then a café on mall road for dessert. Amidst laughter and camaraderie, we shared stories and experiences, making memories that would last a lifetime.

Chasing Snow
The next day, we embarked on an exhilarating bike trip, our destination being the famous Atal Tunnel and the picturesque village of Sissu and Koksar. As we rode through the winding mountain roads, the scenery around us transformed into a winter wonderland. The snow-capped mountains stood tall, welcoming us to their ethereal realm.

Finally, the moment we had been waiting for arrived – we were surrounded by soft, powdery snow! We drove the bike for around an hour and then stopped at a place to go into the snow. The child within us awakened as we threw snowballs and made snow angels, relishing every second of the surreal experience. The sheer beauty of the landscape left us awe-struck, and we couldn’t help but be grateful for this wonderful experience.

The ride back
After the exciting journey and experience, we headed back to the hostel. We had a few snacks on the way and went ahead and explored a few nearby places on the way and then continued our bike ride back. We reached the hostel in the evening and shared our experience with our newly made friends in the hostel.

A night to remember
It was my last night in Manali as I had to catch a late night bus back to Delhi, so we decided to go to a famous outdoor restaurant in Old Manali. Once we reached there, we were awestruck as we could see the entire city and the lights from our table and the view was incredible.
The food was amazing and we talked about everything and shared our life experiences and journeys.
Unfortunately, like all good things end, the night also came to an end and we headed back to the hostel after the amazing dinner. I packed my bags after reaching back and went to the bus stop with all the amazing memories I had made. I boarded the bus with a bittersweet feeling and I had left a part of me in Manali but I was grateful for this incredible journey I had decided to take.

Epilogue: An Unforgettable Journey
My solo trip to Manali had turned into an extraordinary adventure, thanks to the missed train, the newfound friendships, and the surreal encounter with snow. It taught me that some of the best experiences in life come unexpectedly and are often shared with kindred spirits. I returned to Jaipur with a heart full of gratitude and a promise to cherish the memories of this journey forever.

If you have ever dreamed of experiencing snow’s gentle touch, don’t wait for the perfect moment – pack your bags and set off on your own adventure. Embrace the uncertainties, meet new people, and let the magic of the mountains engulf your soul. You can check out my tips for solo travel and embark on your journey!
